Important information regarding the 2020 - 2021 season

The 2020-2021 travel basketball season will be significantly different than prior seasons due to Covid-19 and efforts made to mitigate the spread of the virus.  As of September 16, 2020, the Avon Lake School Board and Athletic Department has made the decision to prohibit all access to Avon Lake school facilities, including gymnasiums, to third party organizations.  What this means is that Avon Lake Travel Basketball teams will not be permitted to utilize Avon Lake school gyms for practices or games.  This dramatically alters how this season will unfold for Avon Lake travel teams.

The ALTBA Executive Board is exhausting all options in an effort to have a 2020-2021 travel season.  Before registering your child for tryouts, please read the following to understand how the season will be impacted:

  • The fee to participate in travel basketball will increase to $250 per player.  The increase is designed to cover the cost of renting court space from area gyms.
  • Due to the cost of paying for practice time, teams will likely be limited to one practice per week.  We may attempt to add additional practices in the month of November to help teams prepare for the upcoming season, subject to budgetary constraints.
  • Practices will not be held in Avon Lake.  We will attempt to secure gym time from 3rd party facilities located in neighboring communities.
  • There will be no "home games" in Avon Lake this season.  Avon Lake is typically a host site.  You may be asked to travel longer distances for games as the league works to find substitute locations.
  • There will be fewer tournaments included in your participation fee.  In a normal year, each team is allowed 3 tournaments, plus War on the Shore.  There will be fewer dollars allocated to tournaments this year, and fewer communities will be hosting tournaments.  Each team may only have 1 tournament included, subject to change as our season unfolds.
  • We anticipate not being able to hold our annual "War on the Shore" youth tournament this season.  This tournament acts as the main fundraiser for our organization each year.  ALL players participating in travel basketball this season may be asked to participate in more traditional fundraising activities to help offset the loss of War on the Shore.
